Definiens Launches Definiens Tissue Studio™

Digital Pathology Image Analysis Software Enables Translational Biomarker Research

Munich, Germany / Parsippany, New Jersey – September 9, 2009 – Definiens, the number one Enterprise Image Intelligence® company, today announced the launch of Definiens Tissue Studio™, the most advanced digital pathology image analysis software for translational biomarker research.

Definiens Tissue Studio is an out-of-the-box software application for digital pathology image analysis that supports a wide array of tissue stains including blue, brown, and red, as well as H&E (hematoxylin and eosin stain) and IF (immunofluorescence). Utilizing the new Definiens Composer Technology™, Definiens Tissue Studio is able to identify highly heterogeneous tissues — and the individual cells and sub-cellular objects within them — to conduct extremely accurate cell-by-cell measurements. The software supports common tissue formats including slides and TMAs, and is compatible with all image formats from Aperio, Hamamatsu, Zeiss, Applied Imaging, Bacus, TissueGnostics, and generic file formats (.tiff, .jpeg).

“Definiens Tissue Studio is a key element of Definiens Oncology Suite and emerged from an iterative development process with several key opinion leaders in the field of pathology,” said Manfred Voglmaier, Vice President of Business Development for Definiens Life Sciences. “We designed the application to address the needs of pathologists involved in translational research of tissue-based biomarkers. Definiens Tissue Studio is a highly sophisticated, easy-to-use software application that enables pathologists to better understand tissue biomarkers and move diagnostics closer to the realization of personalized medicine.”

Definiens Tissue Studio is optimized for cell-by-cell biomarker quantification and incorporates a new, simplified interface. Pathologists need no computer programming expertise to teach the application to identify regions of interest (ROI). The application enables users to work with up to four images simultaneously, allowing for rapid identification and quantification of biomarkers in cellular and sub-cellular compartments. The application can then be used in “batch mode” for automated parallel processing either locally or on a server cluster. The process allows researchers to quickly create sophisticated, robust image analysis solutions that can uncover clinically relevant, quantitative biomarker attributes.

Definiens will be debuting Definiens Tissue Studio in an interactive workshop at the upcoming Pathology Visions conference in San Diego, California. More information is available at: http://www.pathologyvisions.com/workshop.html.
