Munich, Germany and Parsippany, New Jersey – November 24, 2009 – Definiens, the number one Enterprise Image Intelligence® company, today announced the forthcoming release of Definiens LymphExpert™ Version 2.0, a software application for the detailed analysis of lymph nodes. Definiens LymphExpert™, a core application of the Definiens Oncology Suite, is designed to assist radiology professionals in the identification, analysis and evaluation of lymph nodes in CT images over time.
Definiens LymphExpert™ augments the manual detection of lymph nodes in a CT image. Once a radiologist has identified a lymph node, the application automatically segments the node and analyzes its properties. By quantifying lymph nodes not only according to RECIST and WHO guidelines but also by their volume, LymphExpert™ provides a more complete picture of lymph node size. Definiens LymphExpert’s rapid analysis of CT images enables pharmaceutical companies and contract research organizations (CROs) to evaluate candidate compounds earlier in clinical trials, providing significant cost savings.
Version 2.0 allows the user to conduct side-by-side comparison and analysis of images taken at different stages of lymph node development. A cancer’s progression or remission can now be determined by an additional qualified criterion. As a result, compounds that are ineffectual may be identified earlier, reducing the expense of studies and trials. Similarly, costly treatments for patients may be recognized earlier if they are shown to be ineffective.
The software has been enhanced to feature a browser-style interface that facilitates easier importation of data from imaging acquisition devices. Version 2.0 is also capable of maintaining large data sets that can be searched and ranked by demographics, case numbers, and image features. In addition to superior analytics, Definiens LymphExpert™ 2.0 incorporates a client architecture that gives radiologists remote access to their image data and analysis tools from any workstation, at anytime. This feature enables image analysis results to be obtained faster and at a lower cost.
“Definiens LymphExpert™ remains the only software tool in the industry that provides such a comprehensive analysis of lymph node features” said Frank-P. Klein, Vice President, Medical Imaging at Definiens. “The enhancements we have made in Version 2.0 make our image analysis software accessible to a wider range of radiologists - be they working in hospitals, cancer centers, CROs, pharmaceutical companies, teleradiology service providers or academic institutions.”
Definiens LymphExpert™ Version 2.0 has been submitted for CE-mark approval in the European Market. Based on the success of Definiens LymphExpert™ Version 1.0, Definiens is developing image analysis applications for a variety of cancer types, including lung and liver tumors.
Definiens will be showing the software at the upcoming RSNA meeting in Chicago, November 29 – December 4 at their booth in the "Reading Room of the Future", at the Lakeside Learning Center.
