Definiens is being used for tissue analysis in many areas of medical research, typically for purposes such as discovery, target validation, efficacy, and toxicity studies. In these areas of research, Definiens Developer XD and Definiens Tissue Studio facilitate highly accurate, fast and automatic quantification of a virtually unlimited number of multi-parametric phenotypic descriptors, based on the accurate segmentation of relevant regions of interest. These can be measured across the various tissue types as a function of time or dosage – which results in much greater confidence for go/no-go decisions.

Our customers are currently utilizing Definiens in the following settings:

• Validation of biomarkers for toxicity and efficacy in animal models
• High-throughput, quantitative analysis of animal model tissues to quantify biomarker expression and tissue morphology as a function of disease state or drug response (such as time lapse or dosage)
• Understanding correlations between disease markers expressed in human tissue compared to animal models
