Heterogeneity of Tissue

Digital pathology images are of a highly heterogeneous nature due to a number of factors: tissue morphology; region-of-interest heterogeneity; variations in the preparation of pathology samples; the optical scanning system; the staining protocol; and even rips or tears in the tissue.
