Opportunities and Challenges of Bringing Digital Pathology to the Clinic

Tremendous advances have been made is the technological capabilities of digital image analysis which could have significant impact in the clinical pathology laboratory, yet there is very slow adoption of these technologies into routine clinical care. Areas of impact include tele pathology, biomarker analysis, complex functional tissue analysis, education, and archiving. This discussion will discuss challenges and opportunities to bring digital pathology to the hospital laboratory to improve efficiency and accuracy of pathology diagnostics along with real world examples of current digital pathology usage at the Moffitt Cancer Center.
